Magician The Great Virgil Wounds a Volunteer From the Audience Original Photograph Collection Jim Linderman
The Great Virgil was Virgil Harris Mulkey, born 1900 - Final disappearing act 1989.
Quite a magician and quite a show, one which could afford to have three buffoons stand around in clown heads. Virgil's greatest trick, however, was marrying the lovely Julie Capriotti. In 1929, the magician asked for a volunteer from the audience and young Julie stepped up. The Great Virgil injured her on stage! While visiting her in the hospital, they fell in love and married two years later.

They look happy here, don't they? They were. They were married 58 years...and THAT is no trick.

Incredible Cowboy Magician collection Jim Linderman
I know... I hate to see watermarks on images too...but lately things I have posted have turned up as refrigerator magnets on Ebay. In enormous quantities! So much for sharing. Which is also the reason you may see my name in the title field here more often.
Anyway, as I really love this original photograph of a Cowboy Magician, I'm sharing it here but not sharing it without credit, dammit.

Amateur Impalement Art Knife Throwing and a Tarpaper House
There isn't a trick to knife throwing...you just practice. A LOT. On very rare occasions there may be a magician who uses knives coming from behind the board, and there is a trick to the blindfold finale...but for the most part, all that is involved is a good knife and hours of work. No easy solutions, kids. The fellow here is lucky...not only has the amateur missed him, but he is stationary. Obviously, our thrower in training has not yet made a tarpaper "wheel of death" to match his house.
Because their names are as wonderful as those adopted by mobsters, here is a list of famous impalement artists.

Spend Saturday Night Encased in Ice with Rella
Girl number six was Rella Finney, who I can not tell you won, but she did emerge to sign this card. My understanding is that the trick here is no trick...you hope the ice preserves your body heat, but then I haven't taken the time to research it. Sometimes mystery is fine.
