Captain Nemo meets Tonto and the School Bully (Halloween 1956)
Thanks to Anne, who graciously mailed this photograph in time for help with your costume selections. (But not before the local Mega-Mart started stocking candy) Particularly timely, as I am SURE the fat kid in the middle stick-poking a much slighter pirate is the school bully. Let's call him Nelson.Vernacular Snapshot Dated on reverse 1956.
What the heck? I'm going to try and avoid the fact that some family sent their kid to school in the outfit on the far left, first row. Instead I'll just wonder if there is a kid in the pumpkin with the dunce cap. Let's just hope this wasn't for a school play because I don't want to know the plot line.
ReplyDeleteLOL, I never even noticed the kid poking the other one with a stick! BAD hobo! The elephant (?) is my favorite.
ReplyDeleteThis photo is great. I see Ricky Rivets, Foghorn Leghorn and Captain Nemo. Any guess of a year? It seems so old but the characters make me think late fifties.
ReplyDeleteYou know it's bad when you can only tell what 4 of the 20 costumes actually are - an Indian, a mean hobo, Nemo (because it says so) and an Al-Qaeda operative...or is it a genie? Okay, so you can only tell 3 with any certainty.
ReplyDeleteYup. 1956. Back when Halloween started three days before Halloween, not two months... and costumes were sewn hastily by Mom. Back when you were as likely to receive a homemade popcorn ball as a Kit Kat Bar.
ReplyDeleteBack when you could string a couple rows of crepe paper and call it a party!
