Folk Art Tillie Toy circa 1930 Ashbury Park New Jersey Symbol Carnival Figure Original Paint

Handmade Folk Art Tillie, the famed character who represented the Ashbury Park, NJ arcade for a century.  Named after George Tilyou, the owner of Steeplechase Park in Coney Island…but it was the New Jersey Tillie who was saved by Bruce Springsteen fans.

"Tillie" Folk Art carving made from cigar box wood. Circa 1930.  Eyes move.  Collection Jim Linderman

Miniature Folk art Carnival Spinning Wheel Gambling Antique Toy

An antique miniature carnival spinning wheel / gambling toy only 9 inches tall.  Primitive and handmade construction, but interestingly the wheel is covered with paper printed numbers.  The thin paper was applied to the wheel before small nails were pounded in. There is a "catch" cog, so the wheel works and clicks like a real one. I am guessing this was part of a very old "commercially" available toy set?  Think tramp art with old lithograph paper.  The old patina is real.  Maybe a novelty prize item from a very early carnival gaming booth?
Late 19th, Early 20th century made by hand spinning wheel 9" tall, 3" wide.

Antique Folk Art Toy Bird Articulated 19th century Unusual Form?

A form of an early folk art toy I am not familiar with.  It has the look and feel of a squeak toy, but in this case the bird is wired to pick his head up...essentially a very early example of the "pecking chicken" toy.  Paper base is covered with a primitive printed wallpaper of the time.  Any help identifying would be great!  This was a manufactured object (while OLD) and likely other than embellishments, not one of a kind.

Antique American Folk Art Sculpture 19th Century Carved by Hand Fat Man Tammany Bank collection Jim Linderman

A hand carved antique folk art sculpture which replicates the J. & E. Stevens cast iron bank which was patented in 1878.  The cast iron toy was designed by John Hall and was sold as The Tammany Bank.  The folk art carving is larger than the commercial toy, and functions as a bank too!  Metal coin slot, moving arm, original paint decoration.  This folk art sculpture is twice the size of the bank toy, and is an accurate and accomplished construction.

Brush Bristle Folk Art Target with Bow and Arrows

Brush Bristle Folk Art Target with Bow and Arrows.  Not shown, the bow.  There is no identification or company name, so this may be handmade.  Safer than real arrows, and the bristle-tipped arrows stick fine!  Make do created from a floor cleaner?  Original paint with four "arrows" and a handmade 22" bow.

Tom Mix ? Or Just a Big Cowpoke ? Dull Tool Dim Bulb Cowboy Mystery

Whoa, boys,  It's silent oater star Tom Mix (or is it?)  "Tom" is sporting a pair of homemade chaps and an ACTUAL pear so his big size can be determined.  I purchased this wrangler at an antique show for a price so low it doesn't matter, but since he was called Tom Mix I'd like to know.

I can't find any big dolls of Tom Mix online.  Is this an amateur sales stimulator put in a toy shop?  I dunno!  All his duds are homemade (and old) and there is on six-shooter made of lead.  He WAS a cowboy, as the hard composite boots are attached (as are the hands and noggin) but the body is soft.  The kerchief appears to be a found object, and the holster is handmade.  The chaps and vest, leather, have cool leather applied stars.  He really isn't very cuddly...so I don't think he is a doll.  I think some kind of display thing.

So is this Tom Mix, or a city slicker posing as him? I am going to put him on the Collector's Weekly "Show and Tell" pages and call him a unsolved mystery.  Someone will know.  Was there a commercial trade figure or toy 24 inches tall of Tom Mix?
